Character Description
Picture (optional):Jade:
Mieu:
Appearance: Jade, quite simply, stands out. He is a very tall man, standing at approximately 6’1”. He weighs a total of 74 kilograms or 163 pounds. Another thing that stands out, quite vividly, is his style of dress.
He wears an all blue military uniform, that was standard in his kingdom of Malkuth for men of his station. It is for the most part, a blue shirt and blue pants, with an odd blue cape. Whenever he walks anywhere, he will quite understandably draw attention. He wears a brown belt. The buckle appears to be Pac Man, and there appears to be pellets spaced out on his belt.
Jade has a white, though not quite pale, complexion. His brown hair is grown out till it reaches about midway down his body. He wears glasses over his crimson colored eyes (seriously, in the Anime, his eyes are blood red). The symbol of Uriel shines brightly on his forehead.
The most defining feature of Jade however, is the creature that follows him around, named Mieu. Mieu is a strange looking creature—not an animal that many can recognize. Mieu is a tiny little creature, which is nearly completely blue in color. He has two long ears, perhaps than Mieu himself is. The tips of these ears are the only things, aside from his face, that is a color other than blue. Both of these are of a beige color. Mieu has a ring fitted securely around his waist. The symbol of Alyx glows on Mieu’s head.
Personality: Jade is at first mostly an enigma, his teasing smile always hiding his true thoughts. He is sarcastic, witty, cracks jokes at the most innapropriate moments, loves to tease for his own amusement and does it all with a straight face, though he can be extremely professional should the situation calls for it. No one can usually tell if he's being serious, though it's easy to see when he actually is- and surprising, and at least one person will usually comment on it.
Beneath his decidedly lively exterior lies a business-like and scarily practical soldier's attitude. As Arietta lay defenseless on the ground at the Fubras River, Jade is the first to whip out his weapon- only the protests of Luke and Ion stop him from cutting her life short. Even as early as that are we given a glimpse of Jade's true nature- whereas Luke thinks it's wrong to kill an unconscious enemy, Jade feels that sparing her will simply give her another chance to come back and harm them. He never even stopped to consider the morality of such a move.
Often, when the actions of those around him are less than thought through, Jade uses sarcasm to show that he disapproves. Other than amusement, Jade rarely shows signs of any emotions at all, though occasionally they get out of his control. The subject of fomicry is a sore spot for him, and he is absolutely furious when he hears that fomicry experiments are being revived.
Deep inside, Jade feels guilty for all the people he has killed, especially Professor Nebilim. He is also very insightful of others, such as Anise's suspicious behavior at Mt. Zaleho or Luke's lies. Because of his knowledge on the adverse effects that fomicry creates, he is concerned with Luke's health and well-being, which the party is not fully aware of until near the very end of the game.
Mieu is idealistic and naïve. He has the tendency to think the best of people, and he acts more like a little kid than anything. He is constantly cheerful and optimistic that anything can happen.

Key Family Members: Yeah, from what I remember, this isn’t mentioned, so I’ll just make up a few!
Father: Cyrus Balfour |Deceased|
Mother: Elizabeth Balfour |Deceased|
Adopted Mother: Lana Curtiss
Adopted Father: John Curtiss
Personal History: This is gonna be split into three parts. One is from Jade’s page on Aselia—The Tales Wikia—and the other is from Luke’s page on that same page. The final one is what happens after the events of the game, which I will write myself. I’m telling you this now, so that you don’t get confused when suddenly Luke becomes the main character in the History and then back. To be honest, I’m a little too lazy to replay the game and write as I go through it.
Jade is known as the father of Fomicry, the science of extracting data from an existing entity to produce a perfect copy known as a 'replica'. His first attempt was when his sister, Nephry, broke her favorite doll, at which point Jade created a replica to soothe her tears. He was nine at the time.
In his youth, he was, as described by his sister, a "devil" highly adept in casting Fonic Artes; his sister saw him as one who did not understand the significance of life or perhaps that anything but himself could be sentient -- and he, therefore, enjoyed killing monsters through Fonic artes even adults found difficult. Sometime after Luke's conversation with Nephry regarding her brother, Jade confesses to Luke that he still fails to understand what it means for someone to die.
He was, however, significantly changed by his teacher, Dr. Nebilim, a healer who commanded the Seventh Fonon, which Jade could not command himself. Though he had great respect for his teacher, Jade attempted to cast a spell using the seventh fonon, but instead unleashed a power beyond his control that resulted in the death of Nebilim.
As Nebilim lay dying, Jade extracted her data and created a replica of her, though rather than resurrecting his beloved teacher, he only succeeded in creating a monster which he found himself forced to seal away due to its destructive nature.
At some time after these painful events, Jade's talents in fonic artes and fomicry were recognized, and he was adopted into House Curtiss, a family of high position within the Malkuth military. Jade was eventually convinced to cease his endeavors with Fomicry by his close friend, Emperor Peony the Ninth, who spent his childhood years in Jade's hometown of Keterburg. It is also revealed that Jade forbade the practice of Fomicry on living organisms due to both ethical and technical issues arising from the subject.
Dist (also one of Nebilim's students), however, still didn't accept Nebilim's death. His dream was to see Jade return to normal, and help him resurrect her again. However, Jade had always refused, and often opted to make fun of Dist instead.
He introduces himself as "Colonel Jade Curtiss, Third Division, Malkuth Imperial Forces." He also refers to himself as the "Necromancer" once in the story. When the Tartarus is captured by the oracle knights he initiates a emergency shutdown sequence by announcing something into the land ship's communication system which starts with, "By my name as the Necromancer..." He also refers to himself as the Necromancer when using his Mystic Arte in battle.
Meeting Luke
Jade was hunting the Dark Wings in the Tartarus when he passed the coach that Luke and Tear were in, he later met them in Engeve when Luke was accused of being a thief, he was escorting Ion to Baticul as a emissary of peace and introduces himself.
Jade comes into the picture during the battle with the Liger Queen, using his fonic artes to easily defeat the Liger Queen and then capture Luke and Tear on the way out of the Cheagle Woods and learning of Luke and Tear's purpose after interrogating them and asking Luke for his assistance, even to the point of swallowing his pride and kneeling to him, to Luke's annoyance.
The Fon Slot Seal
The Tartarus came under attack from the God Generals and Largo attacked Jade, Tear and Luke, using a fon slot seal on Jade, Jade still wounded Largo and stabbed him.
Later when Asch attacked and knocked Luke and Tear unconcious with Icicle Rain, Jade was the only one of the three who remained conscious as they were captured.
Upon the escape of the Tartarus, Jade attacked and held Arietta hostage to stop Legretta from continuing her attack, he then repeated this method after being knocked away from her by a Liger.
~~~Luke’s part starts now~~~
It is later revealed that the two(Jade and Anise Tatlin) are escorting Fon Master Ion of the Order of Lorelei to the Kimlascan Capital, Baticul, in the hope of persuading the king of Kimlasca not to go to war with Malkuth. Luke agrees to aid Jade and Ion in obtaining an audience with his uncle, King Ingobert VI of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear, after being captured by Malkuth forces and taken aboard the Tartarus following an investigation of food theft by the Cheagles under threat of being eaten by Ligers. They are later joined by Guy Cecil after the Tartarus is attacked and commandeered by the six God-Generals of the Order of Lorelei, who appears miraculously on time to save Luke, Jade and Tear from Legretta and Arietta.
After the return to Baticul, Luke discovers that Van has been arrested and possibly faces execution, but after a meeting with him, Luke sees the promise of becoming a hero as stated in Lorelei's score, only to be tricked by his very own master into destroying Akzeriuth, the mining town to which he and his party had been sent to provide assistance following an earthquake that released the miasma from below the surface. As a result of Van's deception, the Sephiroth supporting the mining town was destroyed and the entire city fell into the Qliphoth, the world beneath the Outer Lands known only to the upper echelons of the Order of Lorelei, which, shrouded in the deadly miasma, spreads beneath the Outer Lands as an expanse of liquified crust beneath an eerie violet sky.
Desire to Change
After his close encounter with God-General Asch the Bloody, Luke enters in a depression shock after finding out that he is merely a replica of Asch, and that Asch is the original Luke kidnapped by Van in order to overturn Yulia´s score.
He is unable to overcome this on his own. As he saw through Asch's eyes the way that Guy still considered him a friend, and Tear's council about what exactly to do to make up for his mistake, Luke cuts his hair with Tear's knife to throw away his old self and try to change into a better person.
From this point on, Luke's resolve seems even more solid, since he now wants to save the world, even if that does not make up for his actions into Akzeriuth´s destruction.
A little later in the game, Luke finds his own way to save the world by controlling the Sephiroth Passage Rings with his hyperressonance. If done correctly, this could allow him to steadily lower the Outer Lands into the Qliphoth before they fall.
Meaning of Birth
One month after the Outer Lands were lowered, Luke has returned to his manor in the city of Baticul. This time though, he has decided to keep in contact with his friends. After a while, Luke and his friends reunite and start travelling the world once again. As they do, it becomes clear that the world wasn't fully saved by their actions. Miasma starts to pour back into the Outer Lands and replicas are wandering the streets with nowhere to go but the mysterious Tower of Rem.
Eventually, Luke discovers a way to save the world that would involve the loss of ten thousand lives and one Seventh Fonist. The replicas, willing to die if it will put and end to their pain, offer themselves up as a sacrifice as well as Luke.
Luke believes that he has no reason to exist and thinks that by living, he is denying Asch the life he's meant to be living. His friends try and persuade him that he's wrong but Luke has made up his mind. He and the replicas travel to the top of the Tower of Rem and Luke starts to cast an amplified hyperressonance to absorb the world's miasma. During this time, Luke realizes that he doesn't want to die. His efforts to remove the miasma are not enough, and Asch is forced to step in and help again. Both him and Luke are caught up in the energy field and when it disappears, they're both still alive. Both the miasma and the replicas are gone though.
A Slow Death
Even with the miasma gone, the fate of the world still hangs in the balance. Van Grants has revived the destroyed city of Hod, now renamed Eldrant, and will use it to destroy the world and build a new age of replicas.
Luke and the others decide that they have to stop this from happening, but that they have to do it fast. The events on the Tower of Rem caused Luke's body to weaken. His Seventh Fonons are separating and at some point he will die.
A Wish to Live
As Luke makes his way to Eldrant to stop Van, he realizes that his remaining time after finally discovering the meaning of life is too short. Tear tries to persuade him that he's going to live and keep on living, even with the Seventh Fonons inside of him slowly fading away.
He eventually reaches Eldrant but finds himself falling through a trap door into a large, sealed off chamber. Asch is down there too, and he's found a way to escape. Unfortunately, it requires one person to stay behind and hold the door open using hyperressonance. Luke volunteers to stay, saying that Asch would be able to defeat Van easier, being the original. Asch can't stand Luke putting himself down though and he can't allow Luke to just decide who's stronger. He challenges his replica to fight. The winner will be declared stronger and will be allowed to go forward and defeat Van.
Luke emerges from the fight victorious and Asch hold the door open for him. Afterwards though, Asch is killed by Oracle Knight replicas. As he breathes his last breath, he gives Luke what remains of his power, allowing Luke to perform Second Order hyperressonance.
~~~~Back to Jade…Confused yet?~~~~
An unexpected attack.
After the events of Eldrant, things had settled down for a while. Jade had moved into the capital of Malkuth to continue his military career, and things were normal…for a time. Jade had advanced, to the point of becoming the Emperor’s right hand man.
That was when the attack had happened. It was an ordinary day, just like any other. There were no indications that this day would be anything other than normal. The attack happened so suddenly, that no one—not Luke, not Jade, not the Emperor…nobody, could have stopped it. Heartless appeared as if out of thin air, and had found the heart of the world easily, and simply.
The world was obliterated by the forces of darkness. It was sheer luck that Jade—and Mieu, a strange creature called a Cheagle survived, and nothing more than that. This was four days ago. He awoke to the sight of Merlin. At the time he thanked him, and walked out. Heartless attacked, and he fended them off, but he realized something. There were no fonons anywhere aside from his own world. Thus, he has since began to try to adapt his magic to make it not use fonons. He has, at least, managed to salvage three of his basic abilities.

Dislikes:

- Being Powerless
- Not being able to use his Magic
- Annoyances
Goals: He has two goals at the moment. Firstly, find a way to meet back with the rest of his Team (Anise, Luke, Tear, Guy, and Natalia are their names). They’re probably dead, in all likelihood btw. Secondly, find a way to adapt all his magic to work without Fonons. Oh, and to devise a way to teleport.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
+His spear attacks are very unexpected
+His magic is powerful, no doubt about that at all. His magic is his single strongest trait.
+He’s very very smart
+Mieu and the ring around it’s belly.
+His experience.
-He currently does not have access to the majority of his spells. He probably can’t use 90% of his magic without Fonons, which no other planet besides his home planet has.
-Like most mages, he cannot handle too much punishment.
-Without magic, he has trouble fighting groups.
-Some of his more powerful magic—when he learns it—is somewhat predictable.
-Mieu can’t do much of anything.
Powers/Weapons
Magic: He has only three skills at the moment, though he will get a lot more.
[b[Sonic Spear: This is the only physical Arte—The type of magic he uses—that he currently has. It’s essentially a thrust with a higher speed than normal.
Energy Blast: A sphere of light engulfs the enemy for a split second before detonating. This spell does a decent damage, though it’s his weakest spell. It does light elemental damage, and does damage equivilant to a Fire attack.
Stalagmite: This spell is his strongest currently. It causes spears of earth to form underneath the enemy, attacking them and freezing them in place, before another much larger rock spike, erupts under the enemy and launching them in the air. This attack hits four times, each hits with the power of a Fire/Blizzard/Thunder spell-one of the three-with the exception of the final blow, which does damage a little higher than a –ra spell.
He has other magic that he will learn as time goes on. You can find them here: aselia.wikia.com/wiki/TotA_-_Jade_Curtiss:_Artes. This is also the site where I got his history, picture, and personality. It’s on a different page obviously.
Abilities: His greatest ability is his intelligence and adaptability. He also has a greater magical strength than many. His final ability, is the ability to summon his spear from anywhere. This is why he does not have a holder for his spear. Right before he attacks, the spear appears in his hand for a surprise attack. (seriously. In the game, he has no visible weapon until he attacks, when the spear appears in his hand with a shaft of light. Of course, in the game, it also vanishes again immediately afterwards, and he’s slow, but I figured five years would change things a little.)
He also has Mieu, who can do a few things. These things include: Talking, shooting fireballs, breaking bolders, and levitating him directly upwards. However, none of these things are used for battle, only for clearing the field.
Weapons: He uses a lance, and is quite proficient at it. It’s more of a handheld spear than anything however. It’s still a good weapon for him to use.
Other Information
Other: I got the History, Picture, and Personality from aselia.wikia.com. It’s a Site for all things ‘Tales of…” related. I was trying to decide whether I should use him or Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia, but in the end I wanted to challenge myself a bit and decide to use Jade instead.
RP Sample:
Jade was a curious individual if anything else. He had always heard about the Gods and Goddesses of the world, and he was curious as to what the actual ceremony would be like. Jade was, after all, a scientist, first and foremost.
He had heard a lot about the Ceremony, how the Matriarch of the Gods visited to bring you there. It all seemed so mystical, so unreal. If it were not for the symbols that adorned the forehead of every adult, Jade would have thought it a sort of fanciful fairy tale.
There was a knock on the door, and Jade guessed that it was the Matriarch. As usual, he was proved correct. A tall man, garbed in silver, stood at the doorway, smiling down at young Jade. Even against his own judgement, he found himself impressed, and soothed. The tall silver haired man held out his hand, and young Jade grasped it with his own hand. Immediately, the two were warped off to the Planes of Existence, where the gods dwelled.
Jade was amazed. Who knew that such a power of movement existed! His scientific mind yearned to find out how it had happened. He shook his head to himself, he had to snap out of it. He followed the Matriarch, his mind slightly unfocused.
Once he arrived at the great dome like structure, he was once again amazed. This time he was amazed at the sheer architecture that the Dome represented. To put it in one word, it was magnificent. He walked in and was this time dumbstruck at what he saw. Who had thought that the gods communicated through TV screens? Regardless, he took a look around and listened to what each God had to say. When they were done, he pointed simply to Uriel. Immediately all the screens changed to see that one god, and a sphere with his symbol appeared in front of Jade. He grasped it with both hands, and a bright light enveloped him. Once it faded, the symbol of Uriel, Good God of Magic, shone brightly on his head.
