The night was a time when very few people ever went to the market place. Most people were tucked in their beds, happily dreaming. It was 11:30, nearly midnight. It was a time that not many were up, yet, there was the occasional night owl.
Nunzio 'The Count' Devereux was one of these. It was not hard to imagine his being up late. After all, with his appearance you would expect as much. The truth however, was that he was haunted. Haunted by the memories of what he had nearly done, and to him, that was worse than whatever he could have done. He gave in to a temptation that no one should ever have to give in to. The need for revenge, the maddening bloodlust. He had nearly lost his life, among others that night.
In any case, he was here to buy supplies, for himself and for the RGRUC committee, which he was a member of. He wasn't at all annoyed by the labor of doing so. In fact, he welcomed it, the night had always seemed to hold him close, and it gave him something to do.
He looked up at the night sky, the stars shone brightly alongside the full moon, creating a scene of beauty. He loved the night, and he loved nature. Both of these traits were shown in spades in the sky above.
Some people noticed that he was not anywhere near as cheerful as he usually was. There was one really simple reason for that. He was not in the mood to don the Trickster persona that he typically liked. Perhaps it was the memories or the lack of sleep. Regardless, he felt too depressed. He only wondered if this night would be interesting at all.

She hasn't been here long at all. Her dark hair blowing in the breeze of the night. Honestly she still can't get over the fact that it has been fifty years since she has seen her friends last and she was some how thrown so far a head in time to a place where gods seek followers. Though this is some reason for her distraught state of mind. The other is her own power and magic that she uses and the fear of using it to it's up most potential, for it could make her evil.
The young woman would stand where she can see all of the market place. In this later night there isn't many, but does there have to be. With a whistle, the wondering Angelo would bark twice and make his way to where the girl stands.
She would dust off her blue duster and think about what to do for the night. Her hand would fall upon the dog's head and she would step down to see what she can find.

Shopping was one of the things that gave Nunzio peace. This late at night, he didn't have to worry about being recognized. It was simply...peaceful. He looked around at the shops and then sighed. Well, he had better get started. The RGRUC wasn't going to wait forever.
He sighed in contentment. Nunzio was one of those people who loved the night. He loved the clear night sky, the crisp feeling of the winds at night, the beauty of the stars and the moon. Indeed, the night was a special time. It was an ideal time to think. It was also an ideal time for shopping, as the lack of people made lines and such non-existant. Thus, as opposed to the hours that could easily be spent shopping, it would probably take him a total of twenty or thirty minutes to shop.
Of course, he had noticed the young woman in the blue jumper, but he didn't pay too much attention. After all, what she did was her business, and what he did was his. It was not his place to interfere with someone else, after all.
He sighed. Another thing about the nights--it was one of the few times he could get out without being quickly recognized. Alexander's symbol pulsed on his palm slightly, and he could feel the GF's presence to lift his mood. He was thankful for Alexander above everything else. It was his presence that Nunzio could count on the most.
Ah well, now was not the time for such thoughts. He gently pushed open the door to the store, he had better get started.

Rinoa would step into the closest shop door, ironically where the man just went in. "Excuse me", she would say as she passes by him to the counter. Her eyes would scan the merchandise around her and behind the clerk and would nod. "Can I get some of those beef snacks please?"
Angelo would make a brief whine and circle around her and then wait for the out come to the bit of activity.
The old gent running the place would pick up the large package and ring it up for the girl and she would pay.
"Thank you. Angelo does have to eat and he really enjoys these." She would open the package and flip on of the bites back over her head. Angelo would leap up and catch it, though perhaps bumping into the man as well.
The girl would react. "Sorry. Angelo was a bit off in his trick tonight." She would bow casually.

Nunzio did not notice the young woman at first, most likely because he was shopping at the time. He looked down at the list that he was given, read what again what he was supposed to get, and put the list up. He was just about to move when he felt something bump into him. It was not heavy enough to make him fall down, but it did make him sway enough to force him to grab hold of something. (I'm assuming the dog, from what I remember of FFVIII, is quite a big dog, so...yeah, it probably weighs a lot...)
Before he even for a chance to look around he heard a soft voice speak.
"Sorry. Angelo was a bit off in his trick tonight." Those words made him pause. He turned around slightly and saw the young woman, bowing casually. He looked down and saw a dog, who he assumed to be Angelo. He allowed a small smile to shine through.
"Ah, do not worry about it. It's no problem ma'am." He assured her. He really didn't mind too much, he could tell it was an accident and wasn't done on purpose. His voice was kinda on the quiet side, which for those who knew him would say was quite unusual. But then, most people never saw him in this state, not that he minded.

Rinoa is happy that the man didn't take it personal. Angelo is usually quite talented and it is rare that he misses a step. "Thank you for being understanding. My name is Rinoa, Rinoa Heartilly. He is Angelo", she would say as she jestures to the pouch at her feet whimpering some. Angelo obviously knows that he missed his mark and is also apologetic.
"Can I ask you a weird question? Well it would probably be a weird question coming from a strager." She would look away and then back. "WHy do you follow the gods?"

Nunzio listened to her introduce herself. So her name was Rinoa... well, it was rude not to introduce yourself once someone else introduced themselves, wasn't it? So with that in mind he bowed slightly, as a show of courtesy, and spoke.
"Nice to meet you Rinoa. My name is Nunzio Devereux. 'Tis a pleasure to meet you."
He straightened up, having introduced himself. He was thrown through a loop when she asked however, and inadvertently his eyes went to her forehead, verifying that indeed, she was a nonbeliever. Hm.. now how to answer her question.
"Hm... that is a difficult question, and the answer is threefold. Why did I start? There were two reasons. One I was raised to do so, and the second I'll keep personal. After words? Well, he hasn't steered me wrong yet."
The second reason was that he had thought that choosing Gabriel would enable him to better protect his home, his friends, his family, his country. He had hoped that Gabriel would help him to better serve his country as a loyal knight. He wasn't comfortable sharing such details to a stranger, despite his cheerful and pleasant demeanor. He was masking his own depression...

"So the way you were raised had something to do with it. Your parents steered you that way? I know it is strange coming from me like this. It isn't that I truly don't believe. It is just..." She would hesitate here, "What if there was something about yourself that you just don't trust? Could they fault you for being unable to trust in something when you cannot trust yourself or what you might do because of that thing about yourself that you don't trust?"
She would seem a bit shy at what she was trying to ask him or even really say. Her foot would drag the ground from right to left and even Angelo would seem edgy. "Would they understand...would they forgive someone for that? Perhaps even if you did something wrong and didn't mean to?"
In a way, one might be able to draw the conclusion concerning Rinoa herself, though the questions seem a bit jumbled for certain. Perhaps it is something that she has been needing to ask a follower since that whole incident when she had that outburst.

Nunzio laughed. He couldn't help it, the words she spoke seemed kinda funny to him, partially because it was a mirror to the way that he himself felt.
"Hmm... I was raised to be a knight. I remember being excited about choosing my god. As a knight, I expected to choose either Gabriel or Alyx, which I have as you see by my forehead. " He listened to Rinoa's reasons, and to be honest, he understood them for the most part.
"There is plenty about me I don't trust, yet Gabriel has at least, stuck by me, even during my darker times..."He sighed, but seemed to brighten immediately. To be honest, he simply caught himself slipping into his depression, but once again, Alexander helped him through it.
"Jason would probably be the best person to ask about that, but in my estimation, they will forgive."
Unlike Rinoa, who hinted at it, Nunzio all but outright stated it. He had done something awful, and Gabriel had forgiven. Why had he done that, he briefly wondered? It was probably the fact that she seemed so nervous, telling him this, and for good reason! He was a complete stranger! Why should she trust him?

Rinoa's mood would brighten some with his mood. "I guess I sound like a baby or something. Crying over my problems. But where I come from, I'm a sorceress you see. All my power is magic based. Otherwise I am as normal as they come. But the way to become one is that you study for decades or you inherit your power from another. I ended up with the power of the three from my world. The three most evil, one evil when she had her power but that is beside the point. Power corrupted them into doing evil things. I guess I am worried that this power would corrupt me in the long run and I might become the most evil thing ever and hurt a lot of people." Rinoa becomes a bit sad by the statement, but it is voicing the fear.
"I have had some out bursts since I awoke in Transverse Town. One such outburst was in the God choosing chamber. I think I hurt Jason and I ran out. I think that is why I got saddled with the nonbeliever title. I didn't know what to do. Do you think Jason could ever find it in his heart to forgive me? Even perhaps give me another chance at some point."
She knows she did a lot of talking and probably asking things he might not fully know the answer to. But perhaps he could give her enough confidence to seek those answers rather then hide away. or even maybe give her some advice on how to handle this constant indecision, which she also has obviously shown him even here.

Nunzio chuckles slightly, it seems that she was a bit more cheerful now. He listened to her explain what she was... her concerns, her fears. His face becomes serious, though not out of fear or any such negative emotion toward her. He noticed that she had shown an extraordinary amount of trust in him. He sighed...
"No no, perfectly logical concerns, I assure you. I have only met Jason once, at my own choosing ceremony, but he struck me as a forgiving type. "
He was confused, why was she asking him these questions, one who she had just met? How did she know he wouldn't deceive her? It made little to no sense.
"Trust me, it's a logical concern. I have often asked myself the same question. Were it not for my guardian angel, I would probably be dead, or worse, a monster."
It didn't matter how much trust she had shown, he was not going to share the identity of his guardian angel--Alexander. Back where he was from, Alexander was revered. It was sealed off for most of his planets history, yet when it awakened to protect his homeland, it was attacked. He had survived, though just barely, and spent his time recovering. Alexanders existence was guarded. He certainly wasn't going to give up, even if he couldn't summon it at full power...
"Hm... surely not every sorceress in history was evil."
That was his curiosity shining through. It made little sense to assume that every sorceress was evil. There must have been some good sorceresses sometime, and they must have had a reason to not become evil. It was logic, or at least, he thought so.

The young sorceress would nod slightly at all he has to say. Taking it in mostly. He has been the most logical and understanding person she has met since she ended up fifty years in the future from everyone else that she knew. It is the question about sorceresses being evil that seems kind of puzzling and difficult to explain.
"No, not every Sorceress was evil. Edea wasn't entirely. But they were reliant on an outside of themselves kind of source. To help keep their minds grounded rather then letting the power inflate it. A Knight of sorts that was their voice of reason. That person could be anyone from an actual fighter to a normal person. A friend, a sibling, even a loved one that just understood. The type of person that could even talk them down from a power trip...we sorceresses have plenty of those...they are just the type to mainly remind us that we are still what we are. Normal mortal humans like everyones else."
The young woman would become some what glum. "I had someone like that. When the world's collapsed I was frozen in time and he was sent to Transverse Town. When I came too finally I was there too, just fifty years later from them. All I knew are some what older then me by fifty years now. I'm not sure if I have a right even to step in now. He probably assumed me lost and married and moved on. It has been so long. I doubt they would even recognize me now or even remember my name." She would lean down and hug Angelo. "So you see, that is my worry. I have no knight of my own now. What is to keep me from losing control? I have Angelo by some strange luck he was frozen with me. But he isn't even enough. My power is so much stronger then my resolve I guess."
Angelo would cuddle to her out of reflex and lick her face. "I suppose that is my problem with choosing a God. How will that make everything better for me? That is my question."

Nunzio listened, and he learned. He loved to read, and by extension, he loved to learn. For what else can one do when one reads a book, but learn? Even fiction held some lessons to be learned. From what he could tell, her situation was similar to his in a way. She needed a Knight to be her rock so to speak. He needed Alexander to calm him down when he got lost in bloodlust or depression, as he was prone to do on both accounts.
The one thing he did know though, was twofold. Firstly, she needed to find her Knight. Secondly, he was not going to be another one, not that the option was there anyway. Now to find out about who he was going to keep an eye out for. This situation required extreme subtleness and tact...
"May I ask the name of your knight?"
Yeah...tact. Okay, maybe not, but regardless, it seemed like the right question to ask. Once again he asked himself--why was he so trusting of this woman? He had never met her before, he had never even heard of her before. So, why did he feel like he could trust her?
There were of course, some things he was curious about yet it was not his business to ask. For example, who was Edea? Regardless, he didn't really want to know, as much of a paradox as that sounds. It wasn't his business.
He smiled at the display of affection that her dog showed her. She and Angelo were clearly the best of friends.
"Haha, that is often the case with those that possess too much power. The point however, is to not lose yourself in your magic, or your instincts. As for your question, I am not the best person to ask. Jason knows more than I do, however, for me..I suppose it's a kind of reassurance, knowing that I will at least get support from my god." He shrugged.

Strangely she doesn't know why this guy seems to make so much sense to her. It is almost what she needed really to push past doubts to get to the heart of what her issue truly is. Though it cannot be said that there is anything that he can possibly do to improve the situation, she does know that talking is helping her make sense of it all.
"His name is Squall. Leon as he goes by now I am told. Leon Leonheart. He is kind of like his name though. He is pretty courageous. But he did come here fifty years ago or so. Can I really place some sort of claim on him anymore? I can't expect him to have waited around for me to show up. All this time he might have thought me lost and forgot about me. I do need to see him again. I guess at least once to confirm what probably is."
She would stand up, "A lot of what you said here makes perfect sense you know. It also helped me a lot." There would be a small flash and a small feather would appear in the air and float down to Rinoa's palm. She would take it and hold it out to him. "I classify you as a Friend now. Hold on to this. And if you see Leon, tell him I am alive and show him. He'll know that it came from me. And in the meantime, should you need me, hold on to that and think of me. I'll be there, Kay."
The girl would manage a smile, though this time the smile would be a bit more confident. That is a strange thing since she awoke. But perhaps everything will be OK after all.

For a moment, Nunzio stopped, and listened intently. Afterall, it wouldn't do to miss the answer to the very question he had just asked would it?
The answer she gave surprised him. Leon? As in, Leon the leader of RGRUC, that Leon!? For a moment he was shocked, shocked that it was so easy to identify him. This woman, Rinoa, not only knew him, but apparently knew him very well, to the point of him becoming her Knight. That was a part of the past he had never heard before. Such a thing, understandably, shocked him for a moment.
Then he shook himself out of his daze, and paid attention to the rest of what she had to say. When she opened her hand and presented the feather, he smiled slightly--though unlike hers it was a bit forced, as he simply wasn't in much of a happy mood today--and took the feather in his hand.
"I will remember, Rinoa, and thank you. If you want to look for your Knight, Leon is the leader of the RGRUC, that is, the Radiant Garden Restoration and Upkeep Committee, though I do not know if he is still awake. "

((Sorry for delays))
Rinoa wouldn't really know what to say. Leon is the leader of some committee here to keep this place up. Well she shouldn't be suprised, he was always a leader when his tough guy exterior got chipped away. She would smile. Leon is alive. Though it is creating a kind of awkward situation for the girl. How old is Leon now...50 or so. And how old is he physically? The girl Rinoa isn't a day over 18.
"So where can I find him? I would need to see him. At least once. Let him know that I'm ok, so I know he is ok. I really need to know these things."
Angelo would whine a bit, understanding his mistress some.

)(I don't mind Rinoa. Side note: Sorry for the crappiness of this post.. V_V)(
Nunzio smiled softly. He knew that more than likely the Leon he knew would be far different than the one she knew, after all, there was a huge gap between the two's ages now. People did change after all, so it was not too much of a stretch to assume the same happened to Leon.
"I will take you there after I'm done shopping, if you want." That was his one and only reply to her, and there was not much else to say. He did still have shopping to do, and it would not be a very good thing for him to return emptyhanded. Nunzio smiled at the bond between pet and owner. It was an inspiring sight...

The young lady would give a smile and nod. This is at least hopeful that she can see him and know that they could still at least be friends without any awkward signs of who they once were to each other. See Leon and let the chips fall where they may. Friends, that is what the girl hopes for.
She would nod again, "Is there something I can do to help you with your shopping? Maybe at least be some extra hands for you to carry stuff with."

Nunzio smiled slightly to himself. That was a pleasant offer for her to make, though he knew it was simply because she wanted to get to Leon ASAP. Regardless, it was a nice thing for her to offer anyway, and he would gladly take her up on it.
Of course, he didn't know what Leon's reaction would be. Whatever it was, he hoped at least that neither of them got hurt emotionally...
"That would be a large help Rinoa. I appreciate any help you'll give."
Extra hands would mean that it would be much easier to carry whatever he gets to the headquarters.

Rinoa's heart flutters some at the idea of seeing Leon. She has to know where things stand now and what their coming together might mean and perhaps the ability to let go. Letting go is prehaps what she needs to do the most. Time had past, even if it did seem to stand still for her for so long.
"It would be my pleasure to give you a hand with all of this." She would smile to the man with her now and scratch the head of Angelo. "He will too. He is just that good." Her laughter following the statement would be light hearted and all together happy. Even though she is a bit nervous inside about all of this.
((Feel free))
